Whistleblower Exposes Unsavory Business Model for Top-Rated Technology Company
Not shy from exposing corporate wrongdoing, Stephan Zouras, LLP filed a lawsuit on behalf of former Director of Client Relations, Jason Cox against SMS Assist, LLC for violations of the Illinois Whistleblower Act as well as common law retaliatory discharge in November of 2018.
The Illinois Whistleblower Act protects employees who disclose illegal conduct or refuse to participate in illegal activities and prevents retaliation from their employers.
Cox alleges that Defendants falsified and manipulated performance data to allure new business and retain current clients. As Director of Client Relations, Cox reported his concerns to the SMS executive team, only to be stonewalled at every turn.
Over the course of several months, Cox discovered numerous fraudulent reports to the exclusive benefit of SMS and detriment of its clients. As a direct result of blowing the whistle, Cox was placed on Administrative Leave and then terminated.
As aggressive advocates, Stephan Zouras is committed to protecting clients’ rights and supporting those who report corporate fraud, serious misconduct or other abuse.
