Have You Paid Unnecessary Overdraft Fees To Your Bank Or Credit Union?

Friday, November 02 - 2012

We are currently investigating several banks and credit unions, including Alliant Credit Union, who may have caused and are currently causing their account holders to pay unfair and excessive overdraft fees on checking and debit account transactions, through various means such as by delaying check deposits, posting debits after banking hours, and/or reordering transactions.

More specifically, we are investigating whether Alliant intentionally processed high value transactions before low value transactions so that account holders would pay extra overdraft fees.  For example, if someone had $50 in their checking account and wrote checks for $10 and $100 on the same day, their bank would process the $100 check first so that it would empty the account and allow it to charge two overdraft fees instead of one.
